Weekend lineup is - 

(all day clinic, You can only take one per day)

Saturday - April 25, 2009 (starts at 10:00am)
The Family Goat: nutrition, health, housing / pet, dairy, meat / lots of hands on.

This class will provide basic information on nutrition, health, housing and fencing requirements for goats. Whether you want to keep a goat for a pet, dairy or for meat production this class is for you. Participants will see and interact with a variety of different goats. Hands on demonstrations on milking, hoof trimming and basic health care will take place throughout the class. We will have different types of pet, milk, fiber and meat goats here for you to see and work with. We will also have the 4H here to talk about the livestock club and showing your animal.  

Cheese Making-Soft Cheese: make fresh mozzarella & farmer cheese / DIY*-kit

It’s easy to make great cheese! Come spend time at the farm and learn what it takes to transform farm fresh milk into cheese. We’ll walk you through the basic steps of cheese making and show you how to add culture, the rennet and actually make fresh mozzarella and farmer cheese. Each participant will leave the class with their own soft cheese making kit and recipes to try at home.

Spinning: wash, card, dye & preparing wool for spinning - much, much more / DIY*-kit

Spinning can be relaxing and creative, giving you the opportunity to create one-of-a- kind yarns. If you have your own wheel and wish to use it, it must be in working condition before the class starts. If it needs any repairs or adjustments, they will need to be made prior to the class. All class participants will get a drop spindle and fiber to take home. Drop spindles will be available to purchase plus mini-bags of various animal fibers will be for sale. Class will consist of discussing different types of wool and fibers, coloring, fiber preparation, carding, using a drop spindle, learning about the spinning wheel and finishing the yarn.

Sunday - April 26, 2009 (starts at 12:00 noon)

 

Getting Started with Horses 1 new owners or thinking of becoming an owner

This introductory class is great for the new horse owner and those thinking about becoming a horse owner. The class covers topics such as selecting the right horse, nutrition, and basic health, tack, fencing and housing. We will do grooming and learning to pick the hoofs. We will be covering as much in this class as time will allow.  

Soap Making: learn the Cold & Hot methods of  hand made soap? / DIY*-kit

Learn the art of soap making. This basic course covers cold & hot methods of making soap. Learn the do's and don’ts of soap making. The class covers topics such as carrier oils, herbs, botanicals, molds, color additives and essential oils vs. fragrance oils. Each student will get a sample soap and a soap making kit so you can practice at home.  

Mushroom Cultivating: Growing & Harvesting Shiitake Mushrooms / DIY*-kit

Learn how to grow mushrooms at home! This class covers the basics of mushroom cultivation including steps in preparing, growing and harvesting shiitake mushroom. Participants will learn how to select logs for mushroom production and will actually inoculate their own shiitake log to take home with them. If you are looking for a way to use the wooded area of your property, shiitake mushroom production may fit the bill.  

~ Hoegger Supply ~  will also be here to demonstrate some equipment used in making cheese & milking. they will have many how-to books and much, much more. Catalogs will be available. ~ Lunch on Saturday ~ at 12:00 noon . Hamburger and hot dog plates, served with bake beans, chips & drink  for a small fee or bring your own. We also have a drink machine for your convenience.
